Darkness(es) run(s) through the space(s), wherever it even is. A fear or a strength … the dark horse(s) (and one a pegasus, a possible transformation, mythologization) ---
Artworks made in Autumn 2021 are exhibited a year later in (Summer) 2022. The work is a formative vignette, in the depths of the pandemic, gravitating toward dark imagery and spaces (basements and caves) the artist created a fictional and unsolicited exhibition. The exhibition takes two forms, which can be considered in chapters, of which Phillips could be considered the multi-protagonist. The exhibition(s) take(s) place simultaneously at two locations; in an anonymous gallery space (AKA +4 Gallery), and (as if at) cult underground venue Dungeon (Detroit, MI) … (+ Kunst & Denker GmbH)
The imagery in the exhibition began as an incidental physical collection that floated and stalked around Phillips’ studio, before transmuting into two exhibitions, that overlap revealing both anima and animus of this mythic tableau.
In Approximate Dark Star Sword Constellation Phillips creates their own constellation, spanning cosmologies, and media (comics/science fiction). This fictional constellation suggests another artwork and fictionalization of a constellation: “the reach of the celestial hunter extends,” which extends the hunter constellation into the future, in which an expanding and dynamic universe makes the arm span of the hunter appear to grow larger. Directly beneath this constellation is darkpegasusvictory v2 ...
who shall answer ft 4 of swords and DR4G0N contains a framed trio from a suite of drawings/paintings/xerox about dragons and digital vision, a sample appropriated from a Pamela Coleman Smith Tarot card which suggests contemplation & healing, and a “cover” of a painting by Yves Tanguy.
The Exhibition is based on a quartet of pieces:
who shall answer ft 4 of swords and DR4G0N,
Untitled (high low archetypes 1),
horse demo,
darkpegasusvictory v2 and approximately dark star sword constellation in exh square.
It’s notable that many of the artworks presented consists of multiple individual elements.
Additionally the +4 Gallery exhibition features special tracks:
