Four Stoppages (Extinct Megafauna) (Africa, Australia, Madagascar, North America)

Four Stoppages (Extinct Megafauna) (Africa, Australia, Madagascar, North America), 2012; Greenscreen Paint on Lumber; Dimensions variable, Each 54” x 11¼ ” x ¾

The green shapes are graphs of the disappearance of megafauna with the arrival of homo sapiens on each of four landmasses; from left to right: Africa, Australia, Madagascar, North America. In conversation with Marcel Duchamp’'s 3 Standard Stoppages reimagined here within a scale of time(millennia) and population/life rather than measure and meters. The greenscreen/chromakey color suggests other realities, and so through extinction and loss of diversity there is also a lessening of possibilities and potential realities.
